TL;DR: Baltimore County is now offering two “bulk trash days” per year. In 2022 for our neighbhorhood, they are March 30 and September 21. Click here for information about what they will and will not accept.
Each single-family home and town home located within Baltimore County boundaries will have two scheduled bulk collections in 2022, with a limit of three bulk items per collection. Residents will not need to call or email the County to request pick-up on a scheduled day.
Set-Out Instructions
Bulk items should be set out after 6 p.m. on the night before scheduled collection. Residents should set out items at the same location where trash and recycling are normally placed for collection.
In the event of inclement weather, check for collection updates from Baltimore County. If a collection is canceled, make-up collections will usually occur the next business day.
Accepted Bulk Items
Accepted items include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Residential appliances (such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and water heaters)
- Household furniture (such as tables, chairs, sofas, entertainment centers and mattresses)
- Household items that are not normally accepted for weekly trash collection (such as mops, brooms, sewing machines and game tables)
- Some building materials (such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs and carpets)
- Electronics (such as televisions, monitors, computers, laptops and printers)
Certain bulk materials will require special preparation for collection:
- Awnings must be broken down
- Clothesline poles and clothes trees must be free of concrete
- Carpets and linoleum must be rolled and tied
- Metal sheds and playhouses must be broken down and bundled
- Lawn mowers must have the gas tanks and wheels removed
- Swing sets, play sets and jungle gyms must be metal only and dismantled
Restrictions
Some items are not accepted in the County’s residential bulk collection program. These include:
- Pianos
- Boats
- Pool tables
- Cast iron furnaces
- Concrete sinks
- Compressed gas tanks (or any pressure vessels)
- Drums, fuel and oil tanks
- Mirrors and plate glass
- Stumps and logs
- Tires
- Items containing liquids
- Any large item that is not disassembled
- Municipal solid waste that is part of the County’s normal residential curbside collection program (for trash, recycling and yard materials)
No items over eight feet in length will be accepted in the County’s residential bulk collection program.
Other Options for Bulk Item Disposal
Private bulk item collectors can be found in the Greater Baltimore yellow pages under the “rubbish and garbage removal” section. Since there are several different versions of phone directories you may also want to search “bulk hauling,” “garbage collection,” “trash,” etc.
County residents may take bulk items to all three Baltimore County drop-off facilities, at no charge. Please note that the County does not offer assistance in unloading these items at the facilities.
